Do fish play around spillways?

I am a new fish/pond owner. My gold fish are schooling at the bottom of my spill way (where the water enters the pond) and seem to be playing in the bubbled water. Is this normal? or are they trying to wash something off their bodies? My Koi fish aren't doing this action, just my gold fish.
