Do koi get lonely if there only 1 in a 10 gallon tank?

Koi are pond fish. For a tank, they need a minimum of 300 gallons. But yes, they do better when kept in groups. I would take him back to the pet store, or find someone with a pond. Get a female betta and some female guppies. that would be a suitable environment for your size tank.
